In this book the authors provide a set of analytical and simulation techniques applied to the study of large and distributed wireless networks. The presentation of different approaches, such as fluid models, mean field analysis, and Markovian transient techniques, are supported by application examples describing different network scenarios. Numerical results show the applicability of these methodologies to evaluate performance indexes useful to plan and manage large wireless networks.

In the literature there exist many works focused on the evaluation of wireless networks. The main purpose of this book is to collect and show selected analytical and simulation techniques used by the authors to describe different scenarios of wireless networks. The technical details are presented for each approach, together with the characteristics that make it suitable for any particular case considered. E.g., the book points out how fluid models are appropriate to describe high-density networks where energy consumption issues are studied. The outcome will review the development and the use of models for the evaluation of wireless networks.
