商品描述

Experiment Design for Environmental Engineering provides a wide range of practical environmental engineering laboratory experiments for implementation by students in a university laboratory or by practicing professionals in the field, along with an extensive discussion on how to design an experiment that will provide meaningful and useful data, how to interpret the data generated from an experiment, and how to present those data to an audience of other students or professionals. The example experiments provide a way to evaluate a new design against an existing experiment to determine what information is most appropriate in each section and how to format the data for the most effective outcome.

Features

  • Fills in the gap in ABET requirements to teach students how to design experiments and includes key elements for a successful design
  • Covers experiments for a wide range of environmental engineering topics
  • Provides standardized approach that includes a basic background to the concepts and step-by-step procedure for conducting the experiment
  • Explains designs that are suitable for college laboratory and professional applications
  • Shows how to organize experimental data as it is collected to optimize usefulness
  • Provides templates for design of the experiment and for presenting the resulting data to technical and nontechnical audiences or clients

作者簡介

Prof. Francis J. Hopcroft recently retired from teaching civil and environmental engineering after 23 years in the classroom and about 40 years of consulting in the field. He is the author of 6 environmental engineering and hazardous waste management books, the coauthor of 22 such books, and a contributor to a dozen or more professional manuals of practice. Prof. Hopcroft was registered as a Professional Engineer in all six New England states and as a Licensed Site Professional in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Before starting his teaching career, Prof. Hopcroft spend 25 years in professional practice as a consultant, an EPA regulator and as the President of several consulting firms doing site assessment for the presence of hazardous materials. He continued his consulting work while teaching to maintain currency in his field and to bring current concepts into the classroom.
Dr. Abigail Charest is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) in Boston, Massachusetts since August 2014. Dr. Charest is currently the Blittersdorf Endowed Professor and the civil graduate coordinator. Dr. Charest is an avid researcher, competent experimenter, and exceptional innovator in the laboratory. She is focused on the biological nature of environmental work and has developed the biological experiments in this book, among others. She has also been the lead faculty member in the redevelopment of a graduate program in civil engineering at Wentworth and has incorporated significant research and experimentation opportunities into that program. Dr. Charest received her doctorate from the Worcester Polytechnic University, and prior to entering into academia, Dr. Charest worked in the field of environmental consulting the New England Area. During this time, she received her Professional Engineering license in the state of Massachusetts.
Dr. Gautham P. Das has served as Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) in Boston, Massachusetts since August 2008. Dr. Das received a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Das is currently an Elder Endowed Professor at WIT. Prior to starting his teaching career, Dr. Das worked for environmental consulting firms in North Carolina and Boston. His expertise lies in Water Resources, Hydraulic Engineering and Environmental Remediation. He is active in the Water Environment Federation, the New England Water Environment Association and the American Society for Engineering Education. He has authored numerous technical papers on various civil and environmental engineering subjects that have been presented at technical conferences and appeared in the Proceedings of those conferences.
