本卷《智能系統與計算的進展》突顯了在第十二屆國際遺傳與演化計算會議（ICGEC 2018）上發表的論文。該會議於2018年12月14日至17日在中國江蘇省常州舉行，由Springer、常州信息技術學院、福建省大數據挖掘與應用重點實驗室、福建工業大學、國家實驗電子信息與電氣技術教育示範中心、福建工業大學、台南大學、高雄國立大學及山東科技大學共同主辦。該會議旨在為遺傳與演化計算各領域的研究人員和專業人士提供一個國際論壇。

Jeng-Shyang Pan is currently professor and dean of School of Information Science and Engineering, Fujian University of Technology, Fuzhou, China. He received the B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in 1986, the M.S. degree in Communication Engineering from the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, U.K. in 1996. He is Fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK. In 2012, Prof. Pan was named in "National 1000-Talent Plan" in China. His current research interests include soft computing, information security, big data mining and signal processing. Prof. Pan has published more than 500 research papers in academic journals and conferences with h-index of 39. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Information Hiding and Multimedia Signal Processing and International Journal of Innovative Computing, Information and Control.

Jerry Chun-Wei Lin currently works as Associate Professor at Department of Computing, Mathematics, and Physics, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Bergen, Norway. He received his Ph.D. degree from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan in 2010. He has published more than 250 research papers in referred journals and conferences. Prof. Lin is currently Editorial Board member of journal Intelligent Data Analysis, Associate Editor of Journal of Internet Technology, and IEEE Access. Prof. Lin is also the Editor-in-Chief of journal Data Science and Pattern Recognition. The research fields of Prof. Lin's Intelligent Knowledge Engineering Lab include data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, social computing, multimedia and image processing, and privacy-preserving and security technologies.

Sui Bixia is a full professor and a vice president of Changzhou College of Information Technology. She graduated in Power System and Automation from South East University in 1985. Engaged in computer-related specialty construction, talent cultivation and scientific research for many years, Sui Bixia has attained outstanding achievements in teaching and research. She is a national outstanding teacher and the leader of a national teaching team, and has won 1 State Award for Outstanding Teaching Achievements and 5 Provincial Awards for Outstanding Teaching Achievements. She has finished many projects such as the construction of Jiangsu Embedded Software Technology Research and Development Center, National Teaching Resource Database of Software Technology Specialty, a National Excellent Course, and a National Excellent Resource Sharing Course, and has published more than 50 academic papers/books.

Shih-Pang Tseng was born in 1968. He received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan in 1992; and the Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, National Sun Yat-sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He is an Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Entertainment Technology, Tajen University, Pingtung, Taiwan. He got the excellent research award of Tajen University. He is the director of Taiwan Association for Web Intelligence Consortium. He is also the executive of the MOST AI Robot and Orange Application Alliance, Taiwan. This alliance focus on the cooperation of universities and industries. He has been the local co-chair of ICWL2013, program co-chair of NCS2015 and the program chair of NCWIA2018. His current research interests include artificial intelligence, learning technology, and internet-of-things.

Jeng-Shyang Pan 目前是中國福州福建科技大學資訊科學與工程學院的教授及院長。他於1986年獲得國立台灣科技大學電子工程學士學位，1988年獲得國立交通大學通信工程碩士學位，1996年獲得英國愛丁堡大學電機工程博士學位。他是英國工程技術學會（IET）的院士。2012年，潘教授被列入中國的「國家千人計畫」。他目前的研究興趣包括軟計算、資訊安全、大數據挖掘和信號處理。潘教授在學術期刊和會議上發表了超過500篇研究論文，H指數為39。他是《資訊隱藏與多媒體信號處理期刊》和《創新計算、資訊與控制國際期刊》的創始主編。

Jerry Chun-Wei Lin 目前擔任挪威西部應用科技大學計算、數學與物理系的副教授。他於2010年獲得國立成功大學的博士學位。他在同行評審的期刊和會議上發表了超過250篇研究論文。林教授目前是《智能數據分析期刊》的編輯委員會成員、《網際網路技術期刊》和《IEEE Access》的副編輯。他也是《數據科學與模式識別期刊》的主編。林教授的智能知識工程實驗室的研究領域包括數據挖掘、機器學習、人工智慧、社會計算、多媒體與影像處理，以及隱私保護和安全技術。

Sui Bixia 是常州信息技術職業學院的正教授及副院長。她於1985年畢業於東南大學電力系統與自動化專業。從事計算機相關專業建設、人才培養和科學研究多年，隨碧霞在教學和研究方面取得了卓越成就。她是全國優秀教師和全國教學團隊的領導者，曾獲得1項國家優秀教學成果獎和5項省級優秀教學成果獎。她完成了多個項目，如江蘇嵌入式軟體技術研究與開發中心的建設、軟體技術專業的國家教學資源數據庫、一門國家優秀課程和一門國家優秀資源共享課程，並發表了超過50篇學術論文/書籍。

Shih-Pang Tseng 於1968年出生。他於1992年獲得國立成功大學電機工程碩士學位；並在國立中山大學計算機科學與工程系攻讀博士候選人。他是屏東太辰大學計算機科學與娛樂技術系的副教授。他獲得了太辰大學的優秀研究獎。他是台灣網路智慧協會的理事，也是台灣MOST AI機器人與橘子應用聯盟的執行委員。該聯盟專注於大學與產業的合作。他曾擔任ICWL2013的地方共同主席、NCS2015的程式共同主席及NCWIA2018的程式主席。他目前的研究興趣包括人工智慧、學習技術和物聯網。
