Fire Risk Management: Principles and Strategies combines risk management principles with fire safety techniques to provide readers with practical strategies and workflows that can be used to help prevent and mitigate today's complex fire scenarios. The book takes a modern, risk-based approach to fire safety, discussing fire safety objectives in terms of functional statement, performance requirements, and detailed protection measures for both buildings and industrial assets. After introducing the fundamentals of fire safety and design principles, the book goes on to cover topics like fire risk assessment, risk profiles, risk mitigation, safety management and performance, and protective layers, with emphasis placed on performance-based approaches. Readers will learn how to develop a fire safety strategy that can be defined, shared, and communicated among stakeholders that often have different knowledge about fire protection measures, assessment methods, codes, and standards. The content is presented in a code-neutral way, independent of local regulations, but connections are made to key standards such as NFPA 550 and ISO 45001. Three in-depth case studies walk the readers through a fire risk management strategy for a railway station, a warehouse storage facility, and the process industry, helping to connect theory with practice.
