Cai Shen earned a PhD. in Chemistry from the University of St Andrews, UK, in 2008. Sequentially, He continued his research at the University of Maryland, Heidelberg University and Aarhus University. He was an Associate Professor and then Professor at the Ningbo institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Science during 2013-2022. He joined the University of Nottingham Ningbo China in February 2022. He has published more than 100 papers in peer-review journals including JACS, ACS Nano, Nano Energy, Small Methods, and Energy Storage Materials. He is on the editorial board for a number of Journals including Journal of Microscopy, Materials and Energies. His research interesting mainly focuses on lithium-ion batteries and application of scanning probe microscopy. He has been admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in 2022.

蔡申於2008年在英國聖安德魯斯大學獲得化學博士學位。隨後，他在馬里蘭大學、海德堡大學和奧胡斯大學繼續進行研究。他於2013年至2022年間擔任中國科學院寧波材料技術與工程研究所的副教授及教授。蔡申於2022年2月加入中國寧波諾丁漢大學。他在同行評審的期刊上發表了超過100篇論文，包括《JACS》、《ACS Nano》、《Nano Energy》、《Small Methods》和《Energy Storage Materials》。他是多本期刊的編輯委員會成員，包括《Journal of Microscopy》、《Materials》和《Energies》。他的研究興趣主要集中在鋰離子電池及掃描探針顯微術的應用。他於2022年被授予皇家化學學會院士（FRSC）稱號。
